Attorney General Meets ICRC Mission in Sudan

Port Sudan, 21 January 2026 (SUNA) – Attorney General Intisar Ahmed Abdel Aal met at her office on Wednesday with Mr. José Luiz, Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mission in Sudan, accompanied by the Head of the International Humanitarian Law Department, the Director of Operations for Combating Violence against Women, and the mission’s Legal Advisor, in the presence of Kamil Mahjoub Ahmed Said, First Assistant to the Attorney General.The meeting reviewed mechanisms for joint cooperation between the Public Prosecution and the ICRC and ways to enhance them. The Attorney General praised the ICRC’s active role in raising awareness of civilian protection mechanisms and the application of international humanitarian law, particularly through the training courses it has organized, especially in the fields of forensic medicine and international humanitarian law.For his part, the Deputy Head of the mission outlined the ICRC’s activities and objectives in Sudan, expressing his gratitude to the Attorney General’s office for its ongoing cooperation and affirming the ICRC’s readiness to provide various forms of technical support and strengthen cooperation mechanisms with the Public Prosecution.The Director of Operations for Combating Sexual Violence also commended the Public Prosecution’s procedures in investigating survivors and pursuing perpetrators.At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to expand the frameworks of joint cooperation and enhance channels of communication and coordination between them.BH/BH
