Aqaba, Oct 15 (Petra) — The 32nd “Clean Up the World 2025” campaign kicked off in Aqaba on Wednesday, under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma bint Ali under the slogan “Together Let’s Celebrate the Green Destination.”
It featured participation by official and security bodies, environmental and community representatives, and volunteers.
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Shadi Majali, who launched the campaign on behalf of HRH Princess Basma bint Ali, said it embodied the spirit of cooperation among various components of society, including official institutions, schools, the private sector, security agencies, youth, and volunteers.
It underscored a message of collective work to serve the nation, he said, stressing that the environment is the “pulse of Aqaba, and the sea is a source of life and livelihood for its residents,” which makes its protection and the preservation of marine resources a shared national and societal responsibility.
He stressed the importance of educating citizens and visitors about the need to protect Aqaba’s marine environment, as a key part of economic and tourism development in the Red Sea port.
Acting Executive Director of the Royal Society for the Conservation of the Environment, Khaled Al Kurdi, local officials and heads of security agencies joined over 800 volunteers from various official, security, environmental, tourism, cultural, and community sectors in the campaign, along with 18 environmental schools from Aqaba’s public and private schools, and 40 divers from various diving institutions and centers.
The activities included a beach and seabed cleanup campaign at the Al Mamlah site within the Aqaba Marine Reserve, where about 1,330 kg of waste was collected, reinforcing Aqaba’s status as a sustainable green destination.
