Cleanup campaign launched in tourist attractions in Irbid’s Al-Mazar

Irbid, Jan. 7 (Petra) – The Irbid Governorate, in collaboration with the Executive Council, Al-Mazar Al-Shamali (Northern Al-Mazar) Municipality, the Royal Department for Environmental Protection (Rangers), and local youth organizations and community groups, launched a cleanup campaign Tuesday in the forests of Al-Mazar Al-Shamali District.

District Administrator Imad Kana’an stated that these forests, located in northern Jordan, attract significant local and international tourism activity, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to support environmental cleanliness and promote volunteerism to safeguard the environment. He encouraged individuals and communities to adopt eco-friendly practices.

The campaign focused on cleaning the forests in the “Iraq Al-Tabel” area of Anaba village and the forests in Al-Mazar Al-Shamali and Erhaba villages. Kana’an praised the Royal Department for Environmental Protection’s active participation and noted that the initiative aims to enhance environmental conditions and raise awareness about the importance of maintaining public cleanliness. He stressed that preserving the environment is a shared responsibility.

He urged citizens to refrain from littering on public streets or from vehicles, ensuring these areas remain clean and reflect the civilized behavior of local communities.

Eyad Jarrah, Executive Director of Al-Mazar Municipality, explained that the campaign targeted tourist areas in the district, collecting approximately 400 bags of waste. He urged visitors to keep the areas clean by gathering their waste in a single bag and leaving it at the nearest collection point for proper disposal by sanitation workers. Jarrah highlighted the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of the forests, as they are popular tourist destinations.

Ammar Shiyab, representing the Directorate of Environmental Protection, emphasized the importance of sustaining such initiatives to preserve the environment, ensure forest safety, and provide safe and enjoyable spaces for recreation and appreciating natural scenery.
