Amman, Nov. 30 (Petra) – General Director of the Jordan Cooperative Corporation (JCC), Abdul Fattah Shalabi, stated that the Cabinet’s approval of the new regulatory framework underscores the government’s commitment to public sector development and the economic modernization agenda, particularly in supporting agricultural cooperatives.
Shalabi added that the JCC submitted the draft regulations in line with the outcomes of the new Cooperatives Law, which established clear foundations for creating a Cooperative Development Fund and Institute, considered essential levers for achieving sustainable development, alongside enhancing regional and international cooperation in the cooperative sector.
He noted that recent legislative developments necessitated the establishment of new organizational units within the cooperative corporation capable of aligning with the updated laws and regulations. Work is ongoing to prepare a set of executive regulations for cooperatives and cooperative unions, as well as for the Fund and Institute, to match the current phase marked by a notable expansion in cooperative activities and their role in local development.
The new regulatory framework is expected, once enacted, to strengthen governance, enhance institutional performance, and enable cooperatives to access more structured and diversified funding and training opportunities, thereby supporting their economic and social role across Jordan’s governorates.
