Amman, Feb 3 (Petra) – The Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson said the Cybercrime Unit is warning the public against purchasing gold through advertisements posted on social media pages.
The spokesperson confirmed that the unit has recently dealt with several fraud complaints involving gold purchases through social media pages. He explained that the complaints generally involve sending money to a fraudster who then disappears without delivering the agreed-upon gold, or, in other cases, sending gold that, upon inspection, is found to be counterfeit, mixed with other metals such as iron or copper, or not gold at all.
He urged the public not to engage with such pages and, when intending to purchase gold, to go only to licensed shops and conduct purchases through authorized and official outlets.
