Irbid, Jan. 13 (Petra) – The National Association for Family Empowerment has launched the “Economic Support for Women and Achieving Sustainable Economic Protection” project, funded by the Regional Development and Protection Program in Irbid Governorate.
During the launch ceremony, Irbid Governor Radwan Al-Otoum highlighted that His Majesty King Abdullah has repeatedly emphasized the need to create an environment conducive to achieving comprehensive sustainable development. This vision aims to equip Jordanians with the tools to contribute to their country’s progress and secure a better standard of living.
Al-Otoum added that Her Majesty Queen Rania has consistently stressed that women’s participation and empowerment are vital components in fostering educated, progressive, harmonious, and economically prosperous societies. Empowering women, he noted, ensures the empowerment of society as a whole.
He underscored that achieving comprehensive development requires granting women their rightful place and full rights in society. Women must assume the roles they deserve in society and the workforce, as they have proven their competence across all fields.
For his part, Mayor of Greater Irbid Municipality, Nabil Al-Kofahi, affirmed that the municipality dedicates all its resources and facilities to empowering youth and women through training, aiming to seize every opportunity to support them.
He pointed out that the municipality has established a Directorate of Social Responsibility, which includes a unit for women’s empowerment, to realize its vision of a green, investment-attractive city that supports women. The municipality is working with supportive organizations to provide job opportunities and training for women through more than 20 projects.
Executive Director of the Association, Rania Hayouk, stated that since His Majesty King Abdullah assumed his constitutional powers, Jordan has made significant and tangible progress in supporting and empowering women politically, economically, and socially. Women in Jordan have taken significant strides across various fields with the state’s clear support.
Despite numerous initiatives and national strategies to enhance women’s economic participation, Hayouk noted that their contribution remains low. Official data shows that the women’s participation rate did not exceed 14% in 2024.
She explained that this project aligns with the national priorities outlined in the National Strategy for Women, the Economic Modernization Vision, and the National Social Protection Strategy. It aims to address the economic, social, legal, and political challenges women face in different communities.
