Amman, Nov. 16 (Petra) – A report on the achievements of Jordan’s ministries and government institutions for the past month revealed “significant” progress in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ accomplishments in the natural gas and renewable energy sectors.
According to the report released by the Ministry of Government Communications on Sunday, the ministry signed a strategic agreement with the Kuwaiti Drilling Company (KDC) to drill 80 wells in the Risha gas field, at a cost of $174 million, and extended the natural gas transmission agreement with the Jordanian Egyptian Fajr Natural Gas Company and the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).
The ministry also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Amman Arab University (AAU) to enhance cooperation in the renewable energy and energy conservation fields and concluded an agreement to replace 27,728 lighting units in the municipalities of Jerash, Ajloun, and Mafraq with energy-efficient LED lamps.
Additionally, the ministry launched the first phase of a project to train municipal employees.
