Eurozone Annual Inflation Softens to 1.9% in MayBrussels, 3 Jun (ONA) — Eurozone inflation eased more than expected in
May 2025 largely due to a slowdown in services inflation, flash data from
Eurostat showed today.
Inflation in the euro area softened to 1.9% in May, slightly below
the European Central Bank’s target of 2%.
Inflation had been expected to slow to 2% from 2.2% in April.
Core inflation excluding prices of energy, food and tobacco
slowed unexpectedly to 2.3% from 2.7%.
On a monthly basis, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP)
remained flat in May.
Among components of HICP, the annual increase in food and
tobacco prices advanced to 3.3% from 3.0%.
Meanwhile, energy prices posted a steady decline of 3.6%.
Non-energy industrial goods prices rose 0.6%, the same rate seen over
the past three months.
By comparison, services inflation slowed to 3.2% from 4.0% in the
previous month.
