Kabul, July 20 (QNA) – Floods that swept Afghanistan’s Nuristan Province killed 20 people and injured 80 others, the country’s National Disaster Management Authority said.
In a statement, the authority said the casualty figures were preliminary and could rise as search and rescue operations continue in the affected areas. It added that more than 100 people remain missing.
Based on forecasts from the Meteorological Directorate of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, the authority warned of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong dust-raising winds and thunderstorms, which could trigger flash floods in several provinces.
The authority urged residents to stay away from riverbanks and flood-prone areas, follow the instructions issued by provincial disaster preparedness committees, and take the necessary precautionary measures. (QNA)
