Amman, Feb 4 (Petra) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi received on Wednesday Charles Fries, Deputy Secretary-General for Common Security and Defence Policy at the European External Action Service (EEAS).
During the meeting, Safadi noted the strategic partnership between Jordan and the European Union, and a commitment to expanding cooperation in various fields, including defense and security. He also stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the Jordanian-European Summit Amman hosted on January 8.
The meeting also addressed regional issues, particularly situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, as well as efforts to bring about security and stability in the region.
Earlier in the day, Fries and Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Daifallah Fayez co-chaired the first security and defense dialogue between the EU and Jordan.
The dialogue, part of the comprehensive strategic Jordan-EU partnership, is to follow-up on the outcomes of the first Jordan-EU summit.
