FM: &quotJordan is for Jordanians, Palestine is for Palestinians, Kingdom’s Position Unwavering”

Amman, Jan 26 (Petra) — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed Sunday Jordan’s fundamental positions on the Palestinian issue, emphasizing that “the solution to the Palestinian cause lies in Palestine,” during extensive talks with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Sigrid Kaag.

“Jordan operates according to well-known constants: the Palestinian issue must be resolved in Palestine; Jordan is for Jordanians, and Palestine is for Palestinians,” Safadi stated, underscoring that regional security and stability hinge on fulfilling Palestinian rights through an independent, sovereign state alongside Israel based on international law and legitimacy.

Safadi emphasized Jordan’s unwavering commitment to supporting Palestinian presence on their land, linking this to ongoing Gaza reconstruction efforts.

“Our position on the two-state solution as the path to peace is unchangeable, as is our rejection of displacement,” he declared, characterizing these positions not merely as policy but as strategic necessities for regional stability.

The minister stressed that resolving the Palestinian issue on just foundations that guarantee Palestinian rights represents the only path to regional security that has long eluded the area.

“This is not just an unshakeable Jordanian position, but a necessity for achieving the security and stability we all seek,” Safadi added.

“There are many changes in our region now, breakthroughs we need to build upon,” Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Sunday, citing progress in prisoner exchange deals leading to the Gaza ceasefire and developments in Lebanon and Syria.

Safadi expressed eagerness to work with the new U.S. administration, noting President Donald Trump’s clear commitment to regional peace.

Safadi reiterated that Jordan’s reconstruction efforts in Gaza would continue “until conditions worthy of Palestinian life are secured after all this suffering, destruction, and killing.”

“The peace we seek, which the region deserves and ensures security and stability, must be acceptable to peoples, fulfilling their rights, specifically the Palestinian people’s right to live freely and with dignity on their national soil,” he emphasized.

The minister outlined immediate priorities: cementing the ceasefire, ensuring continuous aid delivery, alleviating Gaza’s suffering, and launching joint efforts toward peace that guarantees Palestinian rights.

He stressed King Abdullah II’s ongoing leadership in mobilizing effective international efforts for just peace.

Kaag commended Jordan’s role in facilitating aid delivery to Gaza through the Jordanian corridor, confirming that UN operations have continued through this route with steady Jordanian government support.

She emphasized the UN’s commitment to facilitating clear prospects and political will for establishing a viable Palestinian state alongside Israel, despite current humanitarian challenges in Gaza.

The talks focused on strengthening UN-Jordan cooperation in humanitarian aid delivery and advancing the peace process based on established international references.
