Foreign minister, Slovenian counterpart talk Israeli war on Gaza at Bled Forum

Bled, Slovenia, September 2 (Petra) — Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi held talks on Tuesday with Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Tanja Fajon on bolstering cooperation and the Israeli war on Gaza.

Safadi and Fajon discussed the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe. They urged more efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid access.

They also called for prospects for the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state based on the two-state solution.

Safadi commended Slovenia’s “principled” stance in condemning the Israeli war on Gaza and supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

He cited Slovenia’s recognition of the State of Palestine, its ban on arms exports to Israel and the imposition of sanctions on extremist Israeli ministers as examples of its commitment to justice and international law.

On the sidelines of the 20th Bled Strategic Forum, Safadi held separate meetings with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Planar, Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovi? and Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, to discuss regional developments.

Speaking at a seminar on international law and the multilateral system, Safadi warned that Israel’s violations in Gaza have undermined the credibility of international law. He said:

“International law has collapsed in Gaza. Israel is committing massacres, using starvation as a weapon and killing Palestinians amid the world’s failure to uphold laws that criminalise such acts.”

He added that multilateral mechanisms have lost their effectiveness and legitimacy due to selective application of international rules, asserting that the global system has become desensitised to the mass suffering in Gaza:

“When the killing of nearly 150 people in a single day fails to provoke international outrage, it’s a stark reflection of our collective moral crisis.”

Safadi warned that the Israeli government continues to obstruct peace and escalate violence due to the lack of an effective international response.

“The world’s failure to confront Israel’s violations of international and humanitarian law has emboldened its aggression,” he said, adding that Israel has faced no consequences for actions that violate shared human values.

He said that Jordan has always been committed to a just and lasting peace that ensures security and stability for all peoples in the region.

“There is no partner for peace in the current Israeli government,” he warned. “And the international precedent of allowing Israel to act with impunity sets a dangerous example for the entire world.”

Other speakers at the seminar included Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Planar and Vatican Secretary of State Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
