Former German Federal President & ex-IMF Chief Horst Köhler Passes Away in Berlin

Horst Köhler was the ninth Federal President of Germany (2004–2010). Before leading the IMF (2000–2004), Horst Köhler served as President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development from 1998 to 2000, the presidency said in a statement.

Horst Köhler held various positions within the United Nations. Notably, he was the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara (2017–2019), a member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda (2012–2013), and a sponsor of the Citizens’ Climate Convention (2021).

Former German Federal President and former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Horst Köhler, passed away on Saturday in Berlin at the age of 81, the German presidency announced.
