Ceasefire
Manama, 3
Dec 2025 (ONA) — The GCC Supreme Council, in the communiqué of its 46th
session held in Manama, Bahrain today, commended the Sultanate of Oman’s
pivotal announcement on 6 May 2025 of securing a ceasefire between the United
States of America (USA) and Ansar Allah. The GCC Council specifically hailed
Oman’s instrumental diplomatic efforts, undertaken to safeguard international
maritime navigation and trade, and its successful role in securing the release
of detained crew members from the vessel “Galaxy”.
The GCC Council
underscored the critical imperative of maintaining maritime security and the
safety of vital sea lanes. It called for a firm response to any activities that
threaten regional and global stability, including attacks on commercial
shipping and the disruption of international maritime routes and commerce. The communique
reaffirmed the necessity of upholding the right to freedom of navigation in
accordance with international law, particularly the provisions of the 1982
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Furthermore,
the GCC Supreme Council hailed the Sultanate of Oman for its successful hosting
of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat on 16–17 February 2025. The event,
held under the theme “Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership,” was
recognized as a significant contribution to fostering regional cooperation.
The GCC Council
also took note of the insights presented by its Advisory Board regarding
previously assigned studies. These studies encompass key areas of collective
interest, including strategies for confronting natural disasters, the
development of unified policies and legislation for artificial intelligence
adoption and addressing obstacles to greater integration of services among the
GCC member states.
