Governor of Darfur Region: Janjaweed Militia Continues Systematic Crimes in Darfur

Port Sudan, Feb. 11, 2026 (SUNA) – Governor of the Darfur Region Minni Arko Minnawi addressed members of the French Parliament in Paris on Wednesday, expressing deep appreciation to the French government and French humanitarian organizations for standing alongside the Sudanese people under current harsh conditions. In a post on his official Facebook page, Minnawi said he had clarified that the ongoing crisis in Sudan—particularly in Darfur—stems from long-standing structural imbalances and the failure to firmly establish the principle of equal citizenship. He stated that the Janjaweed militia, now known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), continues to carry out systematic crimes across Darfur, including mass killings, forced displacement, and the use of starvation as a weapon. He cited incidents in El-Fashir, Zamzam camp, and El-Geneina affecting civilians, particularly the Masalit community and other indigenous groups.Minnawi warned that the continuation of these atrocities with external backing threatens Sudan’s unity and stability and undermines regional peace, pointing to what he described as the international community’s failure to implement its resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2736 concerning the lifting of the siege on El-Fashir.He renewed his call for a just and comprehensive peace that does not reward warlords or bypass victims’ rights, but is grounded in justice, accountability, and Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue. The Darfur Region governor also extended an official invitation to a French parliamentary delegation to visit Sudan and assess firsthand the scale of the humanitarian crisis.BH/BH
