Khartoum, 4 August 2026 (SUNA) – Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim announced that federal funding will be allocated in 2027 to support universal health coverage and expand primary healthcare centers across the country. Speaking at the closing of a workshop on strengthening primary healthcare service delivery, organized by the Federal Ministry of Health in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) under the Sudan Health Emergency and Infrastructure Project (SHEIP), the minister said the initiative would build on the 1,000 Primary Healthcare Centers Initiative. The workshop recommended improving coordination between state ministries and partners, adopting unified standards for staffing, redistributing health workers according to needs, integrating essential health service packages, expanding digital health systems, strengthening training programs, and updating essential medicines lists. The ministry said the SHEIP project, supported by the African Development Bank, is intended to strengthen primary healthcare services and advance Sudan’s national health recovery strategy, while the WHO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the ministry’s health sector programs.BH/BH
