Sayyid Bilarab Graces Celebration of Strategic Projects Completion in Water
System
Muscat,
24 Nov 2025 (ONA) —- Under the auspices of HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al
Said, Nama Water Services Company held a celebration ceremony to mark the
completion of strategic projects in the water system, with a total cost
exceeding RO 408 million. The
event took place as part of the Sultanate of Oman’s celebrations of the glorious
National Day.
The
completed projects include the second package of the water transmission line
reinforcement project for A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, the water transmission line
project between South and North Al Batinah Governorates, the water transmission
line project between South and North A’Sharqiyah Governorates and the first
package of the water distribution networks construction project.
Qais
bin Saud Al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services Company, stated that these
projects aim to raise the efficiency of water supplies to areas with high
population density and accelerating industrial growth in the Governorates,
meeting the increasing demand until 2040. He noted that the projects achieved a
local added value exceeding RO 112 million through contracting with local
companies and suppliers, with over RO 44 million directed to Small and Medium Enterprises
(SMEs).
In
his speech, he indicated that through these projects, main water transmission
pipelines extending over 620 kilometers were laid, and 27 strategic reservoirs
were constructed with a total storage capacity exceeding 615 thousand cubic
meters.
He
added that the company implemented advanced operational and digital programs
that contributed to reducing water loss by 15 percent, in addition to digital
transformation through monitoring and control systems and smart meters, which
enhances service quality and reinforces operational efficiency. He noted that
over 1,700 Omanis were employed in supporting companies under the supervision
of Nama Water Services during the past period.
The
water transmission line reinforcement project for A’Dakhiliyah Governorate aims
to enhance the existing water transmission system to meet the increasing
domestic, industrial (Madayn areas), and tourism/government demand. The project
cost stands at over RO 126 million. The scope of the project included new water
transmission pipes spanning 174 kilometers, the design and execution of a
strategic reservoir with a capacity of 350 thousand cubic meters in the Wilayat
of Samail, 5 parallel reservoirs at pumping stations, and the design and
execution of 5 new pumping stations with varying capacities.
Furthermore,
the water transmission system reinforcement project between South and North A’Sharqiyah
Governorates starts at the Al Ashkhara Desalination Plant in South A’Sharqiyah
Governorate, with a total cost of RO 129 million. It utilizes large-capacity
pipes with diameters ranging from 300 to 1300 millimeters. The project’s scope
includes laying pipes totaling approximately 312 kilometers, constructing 4 new
pumping stations, reinforcing 3 existing stations, and constructing 17 water
reservoirs along the line with a total storage capacity of up to 265 thousand
cubic meters. The project also includes all civil, mechanical, electrical
works, and the necessary systems for monitoring and controlling the project
facilities and their operation.
Meanwhile,
the strategic water transmission system reinforcement project between the
governorates of South Al Batinah (Wilayat of Barka) and North Al Batinah
(Wilayat of Sohar) has a total cost of RO 88 million. The project will supply
all Wilayats of South and North Al Batinah Governorates, and enhance the
reciprocal interconnection between the desalination plants in Qurayyat, Al
Ghubrah, Barka, and Sohar. It will reinforce the existing water transmission
lines from the desalination plants in Barka and Sohar. It includes laying pipes
totaling approximately 140 kilometers, constructing 5 reservoirs in different
project locations with a total storage capacity of 88 thousand cubic meters,
and establishing 5 water pumping stations. This, specifically, includes a pumping
station with 4 pumps in Barka, in addition to a new reservoir of 50 thousand
cubic meters capacity; It also includes a pumping station with 4 pumps for
pumping water towards A’Suwaiq, Al Musannah, and Al Hazm reservoirs in A’Rustaq,
in addition to 3 pumps for pumping water towards the existing new Barka
reservoir supplying the Wilayats of Wadi Al Ma’awil and Nakhal; A reservoir of 5
thousand cubic meters capacity in the Wilayat of Al Musannah, and a pumping
station with 3 pumps, plus a new reservoir of 8 thousand cubic meters capacity
in the Al Muladda area; A reservoir of 15 thousand cubic meters capacity and a
pumping station with 3 pumps in the Wilayat of A’Suwaiq and a new reservoir of 10
thousand cubic meters capacity and a new pumping station with 4 pumps in the
Wilayat of Saham.
The
water distribution networks construction project in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi
(First Package) aims to cover the scattered villages and population centers in
the Wilayat, including Al Rawdha, Al Akhdhar, Samad Al Shan, Khadhra Bani
Difa’, and the center of the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi. It will benefit over 130,000
people in 2025, expected to reach over 154,000 residents by 2040. The project
cost stands at RO 65 million. Total number of household connections reached 11,750.
It includes distribution networks exceeding 820 kilometers in length, some
network booster pumps, and all related household connection works.
