London, January 6 (Petra) – Iceland’s Foreign Minister, ?orger?ur Katr?n Gunnarsd?ttir, announced that Iceland will expedite its financial contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in response to urgent humanitarian needs.
The announcement was made via a post by the minister on her official X account on Monday, following a phone call with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.
In the post, the minister emphasized Iceland’s strong support for the vital work carried out by UNRWA and its staff under extremely challenging circumstances.
The minister also held a call with the UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, where they discussed the importance of achieving an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and improving access to humanitarian aid.
