Amman, Jan. 9 (Petra) – Jordan’s general consumer price index (Inflation) increased by 1.56 percent in 2024, reaching 110.71 points, compared to 109.02 in 2023, according to the Department of Statistics’ monthly report.
Key contributors to the annual inflation rise included personal effects, up by 12.86 percent, water and sanitation by 6.68 percent, syndicate contributions by 5.34 percent, tobacco and cigarettes by 4.07 percent, and rents by 3.83 percent. Conversely, groups such as furniture, carpets, and bedding mitigated the rise, decreasing by 1.91 percent, home textiles by 1.14 percent, fuel and lighting by 1.13 percent, and oils and fats by 1.09 percent.
For December 2024, inflation rose by 1.77 percent, reaching 111.76 points from 109.82 points in December 2023. This increase was mainly driven by personal effects, up by 17.98 percent, vegetables and legumes by 8.11 percent, tobacco and cigarettes by 6.75 percent, spices and food enhancers by 5.90 percent, and culture and entertainment by 4.76 percent.
Compared to November 2024, inflation in December rose slightly to 111.76 points from 111.04 points. Significant contributors to this monthly rise included meat and poultry by 3.10 percent, home maintenance by 2.19 percent, rents by 2.04 percent, fruits and nuts by 1.57 percent, and tea, coffee, and cocoa by 0.83 percent.
