Amman, Jan. 26 (Petra) – Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Monday requested the summoning of Israel’s ambassador to Italy to clarify the circumstances of an incident involving two Carabinieri (Italian military police) officers yesterday while performing their duties at the Italian General Consulate in Jerusalem.
According to Aki News, the Foreign Ministry reported that the two officers were directly threatened by an armed man wearing civilian clothes, believed to be an Israeli settler, who pointed a submachine gun at them during a reconnaissance visit in preparation for a scheduled mission for European Union ambassadors in a village near Ramallah, within the Palestinian Authority territories.
Government sources said the Carabinieri officers were forced to kneel at gunpoint and underwent “questioning” by the settler.
