Jordan, Egypt Discuss Cooperation on Labor Affairs

Amman, Oct. 21 (Petra) – Minister of Labor Khaled Bakkar met with Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan Khaled Abyad to discuss cooperation, focusing on labor affairs and the situation of Egyptian workers in Jordan.

The two sides highlighted the importance of the electronic recruitment platform in regulating the recruitment of Egyptian workers and avoiding their exploitation.

Talking at the meeting, Bakkar said the “historic” Jordanian-Egyptian ties remain a “key foundation for safeguarding common interests.”

Bakkar also emphasized the Ministry’s “commitment” to maintain open communication channels to address any issues facing Egyptian expatriates under Jordanian labor law.

The minister noted the ministry is “keen” to regulate the affairs of non-Jordanian workers, particularly Egyptians, who are “respected and valued by Jordanians,” adding that labor rights apply equally to Jordanian and non-Jordanian workers.

Abyad, in turn, praised the ongoing cooperation and coordination on issues concerning Egyptian labor, reflecting the directives of both countries’ leaderships.

The envoy said Egyptian workers in Jordan are committed to adhering to the labor law and regulations in force, valuing the support of the Jordanian Ministry of Labor and the Egyptian Embassy in Amman.
