Amman, Feb. 11 (Petra) – Following the executive mandate to establish a National Committee dedicated to shielding minors from the systemic risks of the digital landscape, Lara Al-Khateeb – Chairperson of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) – articulated the strategic roadmap for this high-level intervention.
Al-Khateeb emphasized that the initiative represents a sophisticated recalibration of Jordan’s national security priorities, recognizing that the integrity of the domestic digital sphere is now a cornerstone of social and psychological stability for the Kingdom’s youth.
The TRC – which has been designated as the committee’s General Secretariat – is presiding over a formidable inter-agency coalition designed to harmonize regulatory oversight with technical innovation.
This task force integrates the strategic capabilities of the Ministries of Digital Economy, Education, and Social Development, alongside the National Cybersecurity Center and the executive leadership of the Kingdom’s telecommunications operators – Zain, Orange, and Umniah.
This multidisciplinary framework is tasked with analyzing the technical feasibility and legal congruence of restricting minor access to specific platforms, ensuring that any enforced measures are as effective as they are sustainable.
Beyond mere restrictive protocols, the committee is spearheading a paradigm shift toward “Digital Citizenship.” This involves the systematic integration of cybersecurity and ethical internet usage into the national educational curriculum, complemented by a phased series of sophisticated awareness campaigns orchestrated by the Ministry of Government Communication.
The ultimate objective is to institutionalize an environment where technological empowerment is balanced with robust protective mechanisms – positioning Jordan as a regional leader in the pursuit of a secure, transparent, and balanced digital ecosystem.
