Jordan Partakes in Arab League Economic and Social Council Meetings in Cairo

Cairo, Sept. 2 (Petra) – The 116th regular session of the Arab League’s Economic and Social Council began Tuesday in Cairo at the senior officials’ level, with Jordan taking part.

Jordan was represented by Dana Al-Zoubi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, in the preparatory meeting ahead of the council’s ministerial session scheduled for Wednesday at the Arab League headquarters.

Ali Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the Arab League, said the session’s agenda includes more than 30 economic and social issues. Some are standing items, while others are follow-ups to earlier resolutions from the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit and the Economic and Social Council, in addition to new topics proposed by member states.

The meeting is discussing several economic and social proposals, including the establishment of the Arab Medicines Agency “Waad,” the creation of an Arab Council of Ministers for Artificial Intelligence, an Arab Council of Trade Ministers, and an Arab Customs Affairs Council, as well as the establishment of the Arab Center for Artificial Intelligence in Baghdad.
