Amman, July 12 (Petra) – Jordan advanced in the 2026 ICT Development
Index, raising its overall score to 87.0 points from 84.7 in 2025 and
ranking ninth among Arab countries, the Telecommunications Regulatory
Commission (TRC) said Sunday.
The index, issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU),
measures digital development and internet connectivity across 159
countries.
TRC said Jordan’s progress reflects national efforts and continued
cooperation between the commission and licensed telecom companies to
strengthen infrastructure, expand digital access, and broaden
internet connectivity across the Kingdom.
Jordan outperformed both regional and global averages in the index’s
universal connectivity and meaningful connectivity indicators. The
Kingdom exceeded the Arab average of 78.4 points by 8.6 points and
the global average of 79.2 points by 7.8 points.
TRC said Jordan also improved in the universal connectivity pillar,
scoring 82.1 points in 2026, compared with 79.5 points in 2025. Under
this pillar, the Kingdom earned full marks of 100 points in key
sub-indicators, including the percentage of individuals using the
internet and the percentage of households with home internet access.
Jordan also advanced in the meaningful connectivity pillar, reaching
91.9 points, up from 90 points in 2025. TRC attributed the
improvement to high penetration rates for 3G and 4G services and
notable growth in fixed and mobile broadband internet traffic.
TRC said it continues to review and develop regulatory instructions
and legislation to improve Jordan’s global ranking and advance the
telecom sector. The commission said its efforts focus on protecting
users’ interests, monitoring service quality, and activating number
portability for mobile and fixed services to expand consumer choice
and support fair competition in the local market.
