Amman, Jan. 14 (Petra)-Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in the mineral wealth field for a 5-year period.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Fourth International Ministerial Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Mining Affairs, currently being held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
According to a ministry statement, the memo, signed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, and Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar bin Ibrahim Alkhorayef, featured ways to enhance joint cooperation in various mineral wealth areas.
Under the memo, the two sides will support scientific and technical capabilities that contribute to developing mineral wealth and its “optimal” exploitation, in accordance with the two countries’ regulations in force.
The memo also aims to establish a Jordanian-Saudi cooperation framework in the mineral wealth and mining fields, exchange technical expertise and legislation, prepare research and studies in the related areas, design joint programs and workshops, transfer modern technologies used in mining operations, and discover, assess and exploit mineral ores in the “best possible way.”
Additionally, the memo focuses on cooperation in training geologists, mining engineers and environmental specialists on the “sound” mineral extraction and reduction of environmental damage from mining activities.
