Amman, June 28 (Petra) – Jordan’s national basketball team, the
Falcons, will face their Iraqi counterparts on Monday evening in a
pivotal Group C clash during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian
Qualifiers. The highly anticipated game is scheduled to tip off at
7:30 PM at the Prince Hamzah Arena at the Al Hussein Youth City.

Competing in Group C alongside Iraq, Iran, and Syria, the Falcons aim
to extend their unblemished record and solidify their position at the
top of the standings to comfortably secure a berth in the second
round of the qualification tournament.

Jordan enters the matchup backed by a strong operational start,
having secured three consecutive victories – including two dominant
wins against Syria and a decisive triumph over Iran. This pristine
run has yielded six points, positioning Jordan as the sole leader of
Group C.

Head coach Wisam Al-Sous has utilized recent training blocks to
optimize tactical cohesion, sharpen defensive rotations, and
integrate roster variants to counter physical challenges expected in
the upcoming international fixtures.

The regional derby against Iraq carries significant strategic weight,
offering the Falcons a clear opportunity to carry forward their
winning momentum into the third window of the qualifiers. Following
Monday’s fixture, Jordan will conclude this competitive phase with
back-to-back games against Iran and Iraq on July 2nd and July 5th,
respectively.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers feature 16 elite
national teams divided into four round-robin groups of four. Under
this home-and-away format, the top three teams from each group will
advance to the second round, carrying over their first-round records
into two newly formed groups to determine final World Cup
qualification berths.
