Amman, Nov. 19 (Petra) — Minister of Agriculture Saeb Al-Khuraissat on Wednesday met with U.S. Ambassador to Jordan Jim Holtsnider to discuss cooperation and challenges facing the agricultural sector.
Al-Khuraissat underlined the strong relations between the two countries and the ongoing collaboration, particularly in agriculture. He highlighted the sector’s key challenges, foremost among them water scarcity, and stressed the importance of strengthening partnership with the United States to address these issues and reduce their impact on farmers and local production.
The minister outlined efforts underway to advance modern irrigation systems, promote smart farming practices, and support small and medium agricultural enterprises to enhance the sector’s sustainability and efficiency.
The discussions also touched on opportunities to expand agricultural trade between Jordan and the United States, including increasing Jordanian exports of dates and olive oil to the U.S. market. The two sides reviewed ways to benefit from American expertise and technology to improve product quality and boost Jordan’s export capacity.
Al-Khuraissat emphasized that expanding agricultural trade cooperation offers an important economic opportunity and opens wider markets for Jordanian farmers.
