Amman, February 3 (Petra) – The Jordan Chamber of Commerce and the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance and expand trade and economic relations in alignment with the respective laws of both countries.
Signed by First Deputy Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce Jamal Rifai and Deputy Chairman of the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dilshod Rasulov, in the presence of Uzbekistan’s Acting Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Shokhrukh Gulyamov, the MoU focuses on deepening economic cooperation and facilitating communication between companies, institutions, organizations, and business leaders from both nations.
The agreement outlines collaboration in organizing joint events, scientific seminars, roundtables, and conferences, while also promoting the exchange of delegations, trade missions, and commercial activities. Additionally, it emphasizes cooperation in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), training, and professional development.
Under the memorandum, the two sides will organize practical training programs for specialists and facilitate connections between business owners to explore development opportunities in trade and services. The agreement also includes the exchange of information on local trade and investment legislation, tackling trade barriers, and setting the stage for a new phase of private-sector cooperation to enhance trade exchanges and establish investment partnerships.
Rifai highlighted the MoU as a pivotal step towards strengthening trade relations, opening new avenues for cooperation, and serving the national economic interests of both countries. He underscored the importance of developing mechanisms to facilitate expertise exchange and trade delegation visits, as well as establishing strategic partnerships that bolster economic and trade growth.
Despite the available opportunities and capacities, Rifai noted that current trade exchanges fall short of potential, requiring intensified efforts to activate and streamline the flow of goods between the two nations. He called for leveraging the positive bilateral atmosphere to deepen relations in investment, trade, and mutual benefit.
Gulyamov underlined the visit’s aim to explore enhanced trade cooperation, particularly in commerce and tourism, acknowledging the strong relations and diverse economic potentials of both nations. He invited the Jordan Chamber of Commerce to organize a Jordanian trade delegation to visit Uzbekistan, explore economic opportunities, and establish new areas of cooperation.
Gulyamov proposed forming an “Uzbek-Jordanian Business Council” to facilitate coordination, expand investment opportunities, and broaden cooperation in various fields.
Addressing challenges, Gulyamov pointed out the lack of direct flights as a primary obstacle to increasing trade exchanges, suggesting that alternative transport lines could be explored to overcome such barriers.
Rasulov described the memorandum as an important step in fortifying cooperation, emphasizing the considerable potential for expanding trade and economic partnerships given the strong existing ties between Uzbekistan and Jordan.
