Mafraq, Nov. 30 (Petra) – A traditional Jordanian “mehbash” is now on display in the museum of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, according to Jordan’s agricultural attaché in Rome, Ibtehal Khreisha.
Khreisha said the “mehbash” a traditional wooden coffee grinder symbolizing generosity and hospitality was gifted to FAO by the Rowaaq Al-Badia Cultural Society and has been placed in the organization’s museum as an artistic artifact representing Jordan’s cultural legacy.
She told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the presence of the Jordanian “mehbash” in FAO’s museum carries deep symbolic value and reflects the international stature Jordan enjoys under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. She noted that the “mehbash” embodies Jordan’s rich folk traditions in generosity and hospitality, with Arabic coffee serving as one of the most recognizable expressions of this heritage.
Khreisha explained that preparing authentic Jordanian coffee using the “mehbash” involves distinct rituals, beginning with the rhythmic sound of grinding beans a process that produces a unique and unmistakable flavor.
She added that showcasing the “mehbash” at FAO also highlights Jordan’s global standing in the agricultural sector and the significant progress of Jordanian agricultural products, which have gained access to markets around the world.
