Khartoum, Jan. 29, 2026 (SUNA) – Khartoum State Wali (Governor), Ahmed Othman Hamza, chaired today a meeting of the State Security Affairs Committee, attended by Deputy Director of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Abbas Mohamed Bakhit.The Wali briefed the deputy director on the committee’s efforts to maintain security and enforce state authority, highlighting the committee’s operations and supporting decisions, including Resolution No. 153, and current key security issues.The meeting reviewed the criminal situation in the state, noting significant stability, and received a report on military and operational developments. Last week, security cells carried out 30 operations, resulting in the arrest of more than 100 suspects collaborating with insurgents. The state security agency also continues to address sleeper cells and other security threats.Major General Bakhit emphasized prioritizing security to encourage the return of citizens, including clearing military displays from the capital, reinforcing checkpoints, removing informal settlements, regulating foreign presence, continuing security cordons, and collecting illegal weapons. He also called for promoting peace and social cohesion while combating hate speech, stressing that insurgency has no tribal affiliation.The committee discussed the decline in unregistered vehicles and reviewed the Military Police report noting a reduction in illegal military displays.
