Beirut, Jan. 6 (Petra) – The Lebanese Army announced that it has established positions around the border town of Naqoura and commenced its deployment there in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This coincides with the convening of the Quint Committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement in Ras Naqoura, attended by Senior Advisor to U.S. President Joe Biden, Amos Hochstein, alongside the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the town.
In a statement released Monday, the army indicated that the deployment will continue in the coming phases, during which specialized units will conduct an engineering survey of the town to clear unexploded ammunition.
The statement urged citizens to avoid approaching the area and to adhere to the instructions of military units until the deployment is complete.
