Beirut, Jan 14 (Petra) — Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam said on Tuesday that dealing with the aftermath of the latest Israeli aggression, full implementation of UN Resolution 1701, a total withdrawal from Lebanese territory and reconstruction are key challenges facing the country.
Speaking after a meeting with new President Joseph Aoun, who handed him the designation to form a government, Salam stressed “the importance and necessity of extending state authority over all of Lebanon and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from every inch of the country.”
“It is high time to start a new chapter of justice and security and build a modern civil state,” he said.
Meantime, a Lebanese security source said an Israeli army patrol advanced to a Lebanese army post in the border village of Ras al-Naqoura and only pulled out after a “verbal altercation” with the Lebanese army.
The source also said Israeli troops were raiding homes in the border towns of Aita al-Shaab and Mays al-Jabal, with detonations and machine gun fire heard, and tanks and machinery roaming the area and drones patrolling the skies in the Central Sector of South Lebanon.
