Liverpool Agree £60m Deal for French
Prospect Jacquet, Summer Move Set

Liverpool, 2 Feb 2026 (ONA) — The
Reds have fended off Chelsea interest to secure the Rennes defender, who will
undergo a medical ahead of a high-profile summer transfer.

Liverpool have agreed a deal worth
up to £60 million with Stade Rennais for highly-rated defender Jérémy Jacquet,
with the player set to undergo a medical at the club imminently to finalise a
summer move to Anfield.

The 20-year-old France Under-21
international will not join in the current January window. Instead, the clubs
have settled on a transfer for the end of the season, with a base fee of £55
million plus a further £5 million in potential add-ons.

If the medical is successfully
completed, Jacquet is expected to sign a long-term contract with Liverpool,
committing him to the club until the summer of 2031, with an option for an
additional year. The move represents a significant coup for manager Arne Slot,
who has identified central defence as a key area for reinforcement,
particularly with the contract of Ibrahima Konaté set to expire this June.

Liverpool’s successful pursuit comes
after they faced strong competition, with Chelsea known to have held talks with
the player during the winter window. However, it is understood the London club
will not match Liverpool’s agreed financial package.

Jacquet, a product of the Rennes
academy, has made 18 senior appearances this season, with a string of
commanding performances establishing him as one of Europe’s most promising
young defenders. Liverpool view the investment as a major long-term
acquisition, having missed out on other targets like Marc Guéhi last year.
