Middle
East Space Conference Recommends Developing Legislative Framework for Space
Sector
Muscat,
28 Jan 2026 (ONA) — The Middle East Space Conference 2026, which concluded today
in Muscat, issued a set of strategic recommendations reflecting the importance
of the next phase in developing the space sector.
These
recommendations resulted from specialized discussions and dialogue sessions
that brought together a distinguished group of experts and executives from the
government and private sectors, as well as academic institutions.
The
conference called for the establishment of clear and transparent institutional
governance for the space sector to help build confidence and enhance investment
attractiveness. It also advocated for the development of a flexible and
stimulating legislative and regulatory framework that keeps pace with the rapid
advancements in space technologies and modern business models.
Furthermore,
the conference emphasized the need for continued investment in building
national capabilities and localizing knowledge and technology through training
and qualification programs and the transfer of expertise, while expanding
strategic regional and international partnerships based on the integration of
technology, capital, and knowledge.
The
conference also underscored the importance of activating the government’s role
in supporting market growth, particularly through government procurement policies
for space services and applications provided by national companies. This would
enable these companies to develop their solutions and build a competitive track
record, alongside employing space applications to serve national priorities in
urban planning, food and water security, disaster management, the environment,
transportation, and smart cities.
Organized
by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology over
three days, the conference witnessed the signing of five ambitious agreements
in the space sector and featured 17 panel discussions and specialized dialogues
aimed at charting the future of the space sector in the region.
