Port Sudan, January 11, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Finance, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, stated that attention to environmental issues and preparing them to meet citizens’ needs for a decent life is among the government’s top priorities. He emphasized the importance of restructuring environmental work to ensure proper environmental management and rebuild systems damaged by the war.During his meeting today at the Ministries Complex in Port Sudan with Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Resources, Suleiman Al-Buni Suleiman, the minister highlighted the importance of Sudan benefiting from international funding allocated to environmental sectors and using it to address the negative environmental impacts of the war. He also stressed the need for the council to leverage the expertise of the national diaspora and strengthen coordination with relevant state institutions, international organizations, and United Nations agencies to improve performance.Dr. Ibrahim proposed organizing a specialized conference on environmental issues to develop a comprehensive strategy for environmental work in Sudan. He also suggested holding an awareness workshop for the country’s senior leadership to emphasize the importance of environmental matters.For his part, the Secretary-General provided additional details on the council’s work plan for the new year, revealing efforts to establish an institutional framework to advance environmental work and develop a roadmap for environmental action across the country.The meeting was attended by the Director-General of the Council’s Biosafety Administration.BH/BH
