Khartoum, Jan. 22, 2026 (SUNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held a stakeholder workshop in Khartoum to review Sudan’s Country Programme Framework and approve the 2026–2028 work plan.The workshop, attended by government ministries, international and regional organizations, the Agricultural Bank, farmers’ unions, private sector representatives, universities, and donors, was chaired by Dr. Mubarak Othman, Director-General of Plant Protection, Mr. Hongjie Yang, FAO Representative in Sudan, and Babiker Hassan, Director of Organizations at the Ministry.Dr. Othman emphasized the need to address food shortages, enhance production, and ensure sustainable agricultural development. He highlighted the role of key crops in national revenue and the importance of indigenizing production support in collaboration with FAO.Mr. Yang noted the vital role of agriculture in Sudan’s economy and the sector’s post-war challenges. He reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to supporting agricultural recovery and called for coordinated planning to identify priority needs and activities for 2026–2028.FA/BH
