Ministry
of Culture Organizes Symposium on Educational Sciences, Sustainable Development

Muscat,
30 Jun (ONA) — The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth today organized a
symposium titled “Culture, Sciences (Educational Sciences) and Sustainable
Development” at the Literary Forum Hall in Muscat Governorate.

The
symposium featured Dr. Saif Nasser Al Maamari, Professor of Curriculum and
Teaching Methods at Sultan Qaboos University’s College of Education, with Dr.
Huda bint Nasser Al Busaidi moderating the event.

Held
as part of the “Civilizational Horizons” program – one of the Literary
Forum’s initiatives aimed at promoting cultural and intellectual discourse –
the symposium provided a platform for discussion and exchange of expertise
among intellectuals and cultural stakeholders in Oman.

Discussions
focused on the interrelationships between culture, science, and sustainable
human development concepts, tracing their evolution across various cultural and
social contexts. Particular emphasis was placed on Oman’s experience over the
past five decades and the role of natural, social, and human sciences in
achieving sustainable human development goals.

The
symposium specifically examined educational sciences, analyzing their modern
integration into Oman’s context, their interaction with local values and
knowledge systems, and their contribution to sustainable human development
efforts. Discussions highlighted education’s priority status in “Oman
Vision 2040” and related sectoral strategies, while exploring the
influence of local culture on education and scientific research in Oman.

Notably,
the Civilizational Horizons program supports scientific research, creativity,
innovation, and knowledge economy development, aligning with objectives of the
2021-2040 Cultural Strategy. These include strategic priorities encompassing “Citizenship,
Identity, Heritage and National Culture” and “Education, Learning,
Scientific Research and National Capabilities.”
