Meeting Highlights Importance of Open Data in Promoting Transparency, Supporting Digital Transition
Muscat, 16 Nov 2025 (ONA) — The
Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology today
organized an open data meeting to promote transparency, enhance the
availability of data to members of the public, support digital transition and
innovation, enable data-driven decision-making and develop national
capabilities in data management, in addition to boosting digital development in
government institutions.
The meeting was held under the auspices of Dr. Nasser Rashid Al Maawali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy.
It was attended by representatives of government departments.
The meeting saw the felicitation of government
institutions that excelled at the National Open Data Portal—in appreciation for
their efforts in publishing and updating data in accordance with quality and
transparency standards.
The event included a review of the experiences
of some government units in the field of open data. The presentations
highlighted prominent practices and challenges in developing and updating data
management systems.
The Ministry of Transport,
Communications and Information Technology gave a presentation featuring the
criteria for evaluating government units in terms of open data management, as
part of the assessment of adherence to criteria related to publishing and
updating standards.
The meeting also included panel
discussion in which representatives of government institutions exchanged views
and discussed ways to enhance cooperation and expand the scope of published
data in a manner that benefits decision-makers, the research community and
entrepreneurs.
