Morocco’s Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit and French counterpart Bruno Retailleau agreed to revise a number of existing bilateral agreements to develop a mechanism that better reflects shared priorities and evolving challenges.

Both sides praised the strength of current cooperation in security and migration, with Laftit noting France’s recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara as a key element in advancing future collaboration.

The ministers stressed that bilateral efforts are underpinned by mutual trust and a shared understanding of regional and global security dynamics.

Speaking at a joint press briefing, Laftit said the talks built on discussions held during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Morocco in October, at the invitation of HM King Mohammed VI. Topics covered included migration, the fight against organized crime, and counterterrorism efforts.

Laftit expressed hope that the newly adopted cooperation roadmap would help address long-standing issues in the areas of migration control and security enforcement.
