Amman, Feb. 1 (Petra) –Jordanian MP Ismail Mashaqbeh was elected Vice President of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) and Chair of its Political Committee during the assembly’s regular meeting held in Manama from Jan. 25-28, as the Kingdom of Bahrain assumed the APA’s presidency.
In a statement on the ocassion, Mashaqbeh said the election reflects “strong” confidence and underscores the growing position of the Jordanian Parliament on the Asian parliamentary stage.
Jordan, under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, continues to play a “pivotal” role in promoting parliamentary dialogue and entrenching moderation and cooperation among states, he pointed out.
The lawmaker added that this milestone crowns years of sustained parliamentary and political work, stressing his commitment to working with Asian parliaments to serve Arab causes, enhance peace and stability, and support just causes, mainly the Palestinian cause.
