Amman, Feb. 5 (Petra) Member of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Executive Committee, MP Khaled Abu Hassan, participated in a meeting of the committee dedicated to amending the Union’s charter and discussing ways to enhance its work and activate its regional and international role. The meeting was held on Wednesday at the Egyptian Parliament in Cairo.
During the meeting, Abu Hassan emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of the Executive Committee in parliamentary diplomacy and enhancing Arab economic cooperation through unified legislation that facilitates investment attraction and activates regional economic agreements to support Arab economic integration.
He also stressed the necessity of supporting sustainable development programs, promoting digital transformation and innovation, and focusing on the role of artificial intelligence in improving institutional performance and achieving the Union’s strategic objectives.
Abu Hassan highlighted the importance of ensuring the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union is active, influential, and powerful on both the regional and international stages by rallying support for Arab causes, with the Palestinian cause at the forefront.
He expressed his firm rejection of any statements or positions supporting the displacement of Palestinians or promoting the concept of “alternative homeland,” emphasizing the need to confront such attempts resolutely.
Abu Hassan called on the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union’s presidency to issue an official statement condemning recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, which undermine Palestinian rights and contradict international resolutions. He affirmed that the Palestinian cause will remain a top priority for the Union as a central issue for the Arab world.
