Amman, Jan. 6 (Petra) – Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR), Samar Hajj Hassan, met Monday with a delegation from the Women’s Committee of the National Islamic Party to discuss the NCHR’s role in protecting and promoting human rights.
Hajj Hassan outlined the NCHR’s functions and mandate under Law No. (51) of 2006 and its amendments, highlighting its local, regional, and international standing. She noted the center’s presidency of the Arab Network for Human Rights and its retention of “A” status for the third consecutive year from the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions.
Commissioner-General for Human Rights Jamal Shamayleh expressed the NCHR’s readiness to collaborate and coordinate with various entities to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights.
Commissioner for Protection, Nahla Momani, elaborated on the NCHR’s role in monitoring human rights conditions, reviewing legislation for compliance with international human rights standards, and its pivotal role in handling complaints and following up on recommendations in its reports.
Alaa Tamimi, Chair of the Women’s Committee in the party, praised the NCHR’s significant role in human rights field and highlighted women’s involvement in political life, particularly their participation in the recent parliamentary elections.
The visiting delegation appreciated the NCHR’s willingness to cooperate with the party, particularly in raising awareness and training in human rights field.
