Amman, Jan. 7 (Petra) — The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) has underscored the importance of streamlined coordination among energy stakeholders to address the rising demand for electricity during the winter season, particularly during peak consumption periods.

Speaking at a meeting held on Tuesday, NEPCO General Director Sufian Bataineh emphasized the necessity of close collaboration between electricity generation companies and distribution firms to ensure reliable energy supply. The meeting, attended by technical and administrative representatives, focused on the company’s readiness to manage potential technical challenges during the 2024/2025 rainy season.

Bataineh directed efforts to eliminate obstacles that might impede the company’s ability to address emergencies affecting the national grid. The meeting, held at the National Control Center, included a detailed briefing by the operations team on NEPCO’s annual emergency plan, outlining measures to tackle extreme weather conditions and ensure grid stability.

The briefing also reviewed previous technical incidents and the lessons learned, leveraging these experiences to strengthen preparedness for this year’s challenges.

Meanwhile, the maintenance department reported the completion of all scheduled and preventive maintenance tasks aimed at bolstering the grid’s capacity to accommodate growing electricity loads. These efforts are expected to enhance the network’s resilience and flexibility in addressing unforeseen events.

NEPCO anticipates electricity demand to reach 4,400 megawatts during the current winter season. This demand will be met through conventional and renewable energy generation facilities, with the Jordan-Egypt interconnection fully operational to support the grid as needed.
