Nizwa Magazine Organizes Workshop Titled “Project
Sustainability & Vision Modernization”

Muscat, 21 Jan 2026 (ONA) — The
workshop organized by Nizwa Magazine today under the title “Project
Sustainability and Vision Modernization” recommended the formation of an
advisory committee for the magazine, the establishment of a cultural
observatory, the development of clear policies for selecting writers and visual
identity, reviewing the magazine’s size to align with the new reader and
distribution opportunities, and enhancing integration with cultural projects in
other institutions.

The workshop, held in the
presence of Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harassi, Minister of Information, aimed to
prepare an executive program based on the workshop’s outcomes in editorial,
artistic, and technical aspects. It also sought to raise awareness of the
magazine as a living and renewing cultural project, involve diverse segments of
readers, writers, researchers, artists, and technicians in its development path,
and anticipate trends in cultural writing and publishing both regionally and
globally.

Dr. Aisha Al Darmaki,
Editor-in-Chief of Nizwa Magazine, highlighted the importance of this
cultural gathering in discussing the editorial policy. She presented proposals,
including allocating a fixed writer, while emphasizing that the magazine’s
current policy is based on diversity and not publishing the same writer in two
consecutive issues. Regarding artificial intelligence, she affirmed the
magazine’s commitment to transparency, obligating the writer to disclose the
extent of AI involvement, while maintaining the quality standard.

For her part, Huda Al Jahwari,
Managing Editor of Nizwa Magazine, delivered the magazine’s address.
She discussed the challenges facing cultural magazines in an era of technical
transformations, balancing the preservation of knowledge value with the fear of
slipping into transient trends.

She explained that since its
launch in the mid-1990s, Nizwa Magazine has undertaken a role in linking
local geography with its Gulf, Arab, and global context. It has absorbed local,
Arab, and international voices through translation, without being bound to a
fixed form or content, she added.
