Dongola, January 11, 2026 (SUNA) – Northern State Wali Abdel-Rahman Abdel-Hamid met today in his office with the Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of India to Sudan, Vijay Verna, accompanied by a delegation of Indian doctors specializing in prosthetic limbs. The meeting was attended by the Secretary General for Social Affairs in the state, Manal Makawi, and the Director of the State Prosthetics Centre, Osman Hassan. During the meeting, the Wali was briefed on the ongoing preparations for the launch of a prosthetic limb fitting camp in Dongola, which aims to provide artificial limbs to 600 beneficiaries, including members of the Sudanese Armed Forces, police personnel, mobilized forces, and civilians.For his part, the Indian Consul explained that the camp is part of India’s humanitarian assistance to Sudan, delivered through a specialized medical team. He expressed his pleasure at supporting the Sudanese people under the current circumstances, noting that providing prosthetic limbs helps restore hope and dignity to beneficiaries and enables them to resume active lives within their communities. He also announced India’s approval to train staff working at the Dongola Prosthetics Centre in prosthetic fitting techniques.Meanwhile, Manal Makawi affirmed that the camp is being implemented within the framework of partnership between the federal and state Ministries of Health and the Secretariat General for Social Affairs, represented by the Prosthetics Centre, under the patronage of the Wali of Northern State. She noted that all arrangements for the camp’s launch have been completed, including the receipt of beneficiary lists for the start of rehabilitation procedures, as well as the delivery of raw materials from the Federal Ministry of Health, which were sourced from the Republic of India. She added that the Dongola Prosthetics Centre is among the largest in Sudan and has continued to provide services to all states throughout the war period.In the same context, Osman Hassan expressed his appreciation to the Republic of India for organizing the camp, describing it as one of the largest of its kind in Sudan. He said the camp includes the fitting of 550 above-knee and below-knee prosthetic limbs, in addition to 50 prosthetic hands, noting that an agreement has been reached with the Indian side to train technicians and staff at the center to enhance their technical capacities.BH/BH
