
Oman Olympic Committee Signs Agreements to Support Ten Athletes for 2028 OlympicsMuscat, 23 Sep (ONA) — Oman Olympic Committee today signed Olympic grant agreements for a number of Omani athletes, as part of the preparations for participation in the 34th Summer Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Los Angeles, USA, in 2028.The signing ceremony was held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee.In a statement, HH Sayyid Azzan affirmed that this initiative represents an advanced step in the Committee’s journey to translate its vision of preparing a generation of athletes capable to compete at the highest international levels.He indicated that Oman Olympic Committee’s receipt of 10 Olympic grants, while the usual number allocated by the International Olympic Committee does not exceed 6 grants, embodies the growing confidence in its efficiency and its ability to manage Olympic Solidarity programs with high competence and transparency.He added that this success would not have been achieved without the close cooperation and constructive integration with national sports federations and committees, which make tremendous efforts to hone talents and prepare them according to well-studied scientific foundations for the upcoming qualifications.He explained that these grants represent a practical entry point for realizing an integrated national project for producing Olympic champions, where the national vision integrates with institutional efforts and the ambitions of the youth of the Sultanate of Oman.The ceremony featured a short film detailing the Olympic Grants program, its associated aspects, conditions, and mechanisms for benefiting from it, along with interviews with the athletes selected to receive this support. Then, the agreements were signed between Oman Olympic Committee and each male and female athlete on the list of beneficiaries, which includes ten athletes across three individual Olympic sports.The list of beneficiaries includes 3 players from Oman Taekwondo Committee: Fida Fuad Al Barwani, Dawoud Fahd Al Yousefi, and Muhannad Tawfiq Al Balushi; from Oman Fencing Committee: Ahmed Anwar Kaskas, Israa Saif Al Siyabi, and Janna Mohammed Al Sharji; in addition to four players from Oman Athletics Federation: Ali Anwar Al Balushi, Mulham Darwish Al Balushi, Fatek Abdulghafoor Sanjour, and Alia Faiq Al Mughairi.This project comes within the framework of the Omani Olympic Committee Board of Directors’ keenness to benefit from international Olympic Solidarity programs. The Committee proactively prepared a comprehensive file that complies with the approved technical and administrative standards, involving sports federations and committees in nominating eligible athletes to benefit from these grants. The selection was based on their results, technical records, and achievements in national and international competitions, ensuring greater comprehensiveness in the nomination process.The Olympic Grants program aims to assist athletes nominated by National Olympic Committees during the preparation phases for the Olympic Games. The program seeks to improve the training and competition environment and provide the necessary financial and technical support to qualify high-level athletes seeking qualification.The program also focuses on enhancing global participation in the Olympics, providing opportunities for countries with smaller delegations to enhance the readiness of their athletes, in addition to encouraging women’s participation in various sports.— Ends/AH
