Participates in GCC Ministerial Meetings on Communications, Postal Services,
Digital Government

8 Oct (ONA) — The Sultanate of Oman participated today in the 29th Meeting of
the Ministerial Committee for Communications and Postal Services and the 9th
Meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Digital Government of the GCC, hosted
by the State of Kuwait.

The
Omani delegation at both meetings was headed by Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali,
Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, with the
participation of a number of officials and specialists from the Ministry and
the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

The
Committee discussed several items on its agenda, including the Communications
Sector Work Plan for 2025-2027 in the GCC states, and the preparation of the
executive plan for the project to reduce international roaming and electronic
SIM card applications. The Committee also discussed the scope of cooperation
among GCC states in the space sector and reviewed joint initiatives, including
the General Secretariat’s initiative on the Gulf-European Partnership in Digital
Economy and Innovation to enhance cooperation between the two sides in digital
transformation, communications, advanced technologies, digital economy,
innovation, and space.

The
9th Meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Digital Government addressed
numerous topics on its agenda, including the initiatives of the Unified Gulf
Guiding Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (AI), the adoption of the general
framework for supporting AI applications in public services in the GCC states,
and the general framework for the Climate Prediction and Disaster Management
Initiative using AI for the GCC states, both of which were proposed by the Sultanate
of Oman. Additionally, the change of the name of the Executive Committee for
e-Government to the “Executive Committee for Digital Government” was
approved.

On
the sidelines of the 9th Ministerial Committee Meeting for Digital Government,
the GCC Digital Government Award ceremony was held.

The
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) won the GCC Digital Government
Award for the category of Best Digital Inclusion Initiative for its “Digital
Authorization Service” project.

The
Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning won the award for the category of Best
Digital Government Service for its “Choose Your Land Service”
project.

The
Ministry of Health won the Digital Government Award for the category of AI
Usage for its “Early Diagnosis System for Diabetic Retinopathy”
project.

The
Digital Government Award is one of the distinguished initiatives in which
government entities in the GCC states participate by showcasing best practices
in providing information and completing transactions electronically according
to predetermined criteria aimed at promoting the digital economy and supporting
the process of Gulf digital transformation.
