
Oman’s
Inflation Rate Rises by 0.5%
Muscat,
15 Sep (ONA) — The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the Sultanate of Oman rose
by 0.5 percent in August 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, based on the
2018 benchmark.
The
average inflation rate for the period from January to August 2025 also
increased by 0.8 percent, according to data from the National Centre for
Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The
data showed that the miscellaneous personal goods and services group recorded
the highest price increase at 6.0 percent. This was followed by the transport
group at 2.7 percent, and the restaurants and hotels group at 2.5 percent. The
health group registered an increase of 0.8 percent, the clothing and footwear
group 0.4 percent, and the education group 0.1 percent.
In
contrast, prices for the food and non-alcoholic beverages group decreased by
1.8 percent, the culture and entertainment group by 0.2 percent, and the
furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance group by 0.1 percent. Prices
for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, as well as the
communications and tobacco groups, remained unchanged.
The
average inflation rate for the miscellaneous personal goods and services group
in Oman during the January-August 2025 period was 6.2 percent.
Regarding
the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages in August 2025 compared to the
same month in 2024, the data indicated that several sub-groups recorded
increases. The group of food products not classified elsewhere topped the list
with a 3.7 percent increase, followed by the sugar, jam, honey, and
confectionery group at 3.2 percent, and the oils and fats group at 2.2 percent.
Prices for the milk, cheese, and eggs group increased by 1.1 percent, the meat
group by 0.6 percent, and the bread and cereals group by a slight 0.3 percent.
Meanwhile,
prices for the vegetables group decreased by 14.6 percent, followed by the
fruits group at 3.1 percent, and the fish group with a 2.1 percent decrease.
The non-alcoholic beverages group registered a slight decline of 0.2 percent.
At
the governorate level, the data showed that Al Dhahirah Governorate recorded
the highest inflation rate by the end of August 2025, at 1.1 percent, compared
to the same period last year. It was followed by A’Dakhiliyah at 1.0 percent,
and Muscat at 0.6 percent.
The
inflation rate in Al Buraimi Governorate was 0.4 percent, followed by Musandam
at 0.3 percent. North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and South A’Sharqiyah
Governorates all recorded an inflation rate of 0.2 percent. Al Wusta and Dhofar
Governorates registered an inflation rate of 0.1 percent, while prices in North
A’Sharqiyah Governorate remained unchanged.
