Khartoum, Jan. 29, 2026 (SUNA) – Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General Shams-Eddin Kabbashi, extended condolences on behalf of the TSC for the passing of the national sports figure, Captain Suleiman Abdal-Gadir, who died yesterday in Omdurman.The condolence ceremony was attended by the Federal Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ahmed Adam; Khartoum State Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza; Director General of the Khartoum State Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism Al-Tayib Saad-Eddin; Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Youth and Sports Dr. Babiker Ali Yahya; and a gathering of sports and arts figures, including the Chief of Jumou’iya Tribe Mohamed Ajeeb Al-Hadi.General Kabbashi described the late Captain Abdal-Gadir as a devoted son of Sudan who made significant contributions in football, refereeing, and banking. He played for Al-Merrikh Club for twenty years and coached for two years, leaving a lasting mark by representing Sudan and Al-Merrikh in the 1970 African Cup of Nations. Kabbashi urged relevant authorities to document Abdal-Gadir’s career in a dedicated booklet for future generations. He also reassured attendees that the Armed Forces and all joint forces remain committed to defeating the rebels, with efforts continuing to the borders of Darfur.The Minister of Youth and Sports praised Abdal-Gadir’s sporting achievements, pledging support to his family and ensuring that his career is properly documented.Khartoum State Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza highlighted Abdal-Gadir’s contributions to Sudan, sports, Omdurman, and Al-Merrikh. He noted that the turnout at the deceased’s home and cemetery reflects his esteemed standing in the community. The Wali directed the Council of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Culture and Information to document Abdal-Gadir’s career as a model for future generations.AS/BH
