Tawreed

Muscat,
16 Jun (ONA) — OQ, the global energy investment group, has achieved a major
milestone in procurement transformation by becoming the first company in the
Sultanate of Oman to integrate the United Nations Standard Products and
Services Code (UNSPSC) across both its material master and vendor management
systems within the “Tawreed” platform.

The
UNSPSC is a globally recognised taxonomy developed by the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with international institutions.
Its adoption enables standardised classification of products and services,
helping organisations improve data quality, reduce procurement errors, and
optimise financial decision-making.

This
pioneering move marks a significant step in modernising procurement operations,
strengthening data governance, and enhancing supplier lifecycle management. By
embedding UNSPSC into its SAP system and supplier records, OQ has established a
unified classification framework that improves spend transparency, streamlines
sourcing, and advances digital integration across its procurement ecosystem.

“The
integration of the UNSPSC system represents a strategic transformation in the
way we manage procurement at OQ,” saidSabrina Al Bakri, Chief Financial
Officer at OQ. “It reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation and
institutional excellence, while enhancing the efficiency of our internal
operations. By adopting this global classification framework, we are
strengthening governance, improving data accuracy, and reinforcing
transparency.”

She
added that this project is a key outcome of OQ’s digital transformation
strategy and is fully aligned with the objectives ofOman Vision 2040,
which emphasizes the importance of governance, transparency, and the adoption
of intelligent systems in institutional management. It reinforces OQ’s position
as a leading enterprise contributing to the advancement of Oman’s business
environment.

For
OQ, this integration is a strategic enabler; by aligning procurement practices
with global standards, OQ is now better equipped to drive supplier efficiency,
conduct deeper spend analysis, and unlock greater value through strategic
sourcing. The initiative also reduces data duplication, simplifies onboarding,
and enables more consistent and accurate supplier evaluations.

The
implementation of UNSPSC supports OQ’s broader efforts to transform
enterprise-wide operations through digitisation, innovation, and data-led
decision-making which further strengthens its role as a national leader in
sustainable, tech-driven growth.
